Mechernich/Kallmuth – It is gestures of humanity that are particularly touching at the Stella Maris hospice run by the Mechernich-based social welfare organisation Communio in Christo e.V. – combined with great warmth and appreciation for the people who are accompanied here on their final journey through life. At the beginning of December, there were two such gestures.

„Together, we can achieve a lot“

For the fourth time, amateur photographer Jürgen Reuter donated his popular calendars featuring twelve large-format, atmospheric images of Mechernich and the surrounding region, financed this year by Sabine Michels Kramer ("Sabines Mode"). "It is a great honour for me that my calendars bring joy to the hospice guests and accompany them on their final journey," said Reuter.

He also donated €470 to the Stella Maris team. The sum was raised at a table football tournament in Strempt and through personal and private donations – including a generous individual donation of €250 from René Kautz, a refrigeration and air conditioning expert: "A big thank you goes to all my table football friends and supporters from my Facebook circle."

And there was another sweet treat in store: 82 large chocolate Santa Clauses, donated by Claudia Holste and Hussein Yassine (Gala Bau), for the entire support and care team. "Together we can achieve a lot," said Reuter, summing up the idea behind the campaign.

„Bringing much joy“

Kallmuth also showed its love and support: the local council and a local senior citizens' group collected donations while decorating the Christmas tree at the chapel with lights, mulled wine and warm words. The proceeds were handed over to the hospice team by Jaqueline Fesel, chairwoman of the local council. A sign of solidarity during Advent that shines far beyond the village boundaries.

Care manager Verena Izzo expressed her gratitude to all supporters on behalf of the entire team: "The calendars with pictures of our homeland are always welcome in the rooms and bring a lot of joy here. We can also make good use of the monetary donations. Thank you, we are very happy!"
