Mechernich – The residents of the Sozialwerk Communio in Christo e.V. nursing home for the severely ill and long-term care patients and the guests of the Stella Maris hospice in Mechernich enjoyed an atmospheric and moving carnival afternoon during a visit from Carnival Prince Torsten I (Krieg). There, he wanted to put the residents at the centre of the event, rather than himself. Everyone sang and swayed together, and the nursing staff, care assistants and facility management also joined in the fun with lots of Alaaf during the festive afternoon.
 

During his visit to the Stella Maris hospice, the Carnival Prince showed great empathy. He responded to the personal wishes of the hospice guests, sang old and well-known Carnival songs with them and posed for festive souvenir photos. "The visit from the carnival revellers triggered many emotions in everyone: joy, memories, but also tears. It was a wonderful and intense experience," says Maria Scheidtweiler, head of the social therapy service. Prince Torsten I also described his very personal impressions: "This makes you look at life in a completely different way. Then you realise how trivial and unimportant some things actually are.“
